Why Physicians Need a Trusted Business Advisor - An introduction to DR Advisors — and why I built it.

Physicians are among the most educated professionals in the world. But somewhere in all of that training, no one teaches you how to run a business, negotiate a contract, or navigate the politics of a large health system. That gap has real consequences for physician wellbeing, financial security, and the quality of care you are able to deliver.

I know this firsthand. Over the course of 20 years in healthcare — including a decade leading a large physician group within a major health system in the South — I lived the tensions between clinical excellence and organizational demands every single day.

The group I led didn't just survive — it led. Across every meaningful domain: volume, productivity, financial performance, physician engagement, and staff satisfaction. We consistently ranked in the top 20th percentile nationally for patient satisfaction, with several of our clinics placing in the top 5% nationally. Those results didn't happen by accident. They happened because we learned — often the hard way — how to operate a high-performance practice.

"What physicians most often lack is a trusted partner who understands how clinics, health systems, and the industry of healthcare works."

That experience is the foundation of DR Advisors. I built this firm to be a peer-level strategic partner for physicians who want to take control of the business side of their careers.

Who we work with

DR Advisors serves physicians in two primary situations: those employed within a health system, and those in private practice. The challenges look different on the surface, but they share a common thread — physicians who are operating without the business fluency or organizational leverage they need to thrive.

What we do

  • Business strategy for employed physicians. If you're employed by a health system, you're operating inside a complex organization with its own priorities, politics, and financial pressures. We help you understand that environment, advocate effectively for your needs, and build the kind of internal influence that protects your practice and your patients.
  • Private practice advisory. Running a practice means running a business — staffing, margins, payer mix, growth strategy. We bring the operational experience of a large physician group to bear on the unique challenges of independent practices.
  • Interview and contract coaching. Negotiating an employment agreement is one of the highest-stakes moments in a physician's career. Most physicians do it without any coaching. We walk you through the process from positioning to signing — so you know what to ask for, what to push back on, and what to watch out for.
  • Resource acquisition and administrative navigation. Getting what you need — staff, space, equipment, support — from a hospital or health system requires knowing how to make the case. We help you understand how decisions get made at the administration level and how to advocate for resources in language leadership responds to.

The common thread across all of our work is this: physicians deserve a trusted partner that will help them navigate the business of healthcare, so that they can properly ensure the wellbeing of their patients.
